Age, visa and overseas health cover requirements

To study as an International student at The Bremer Institute of TAFE you must first satisfy a number of requirements.

Age requirements

Minimum age - International Students wishing to study with TAFE Queensland must be a minimum of 18 year of age.

Visa requirements

International student require a sub-class 572 visa to study in Australia for more than 3 months.

A 'student' visa is a temporary visa issued to non-Australian residents. It is only granted to students who are enrolled in a registered, full time course in Australia .

International students are generally issued with a multiple entry visa for the duration of their study in Australia . It lets them travel to and from Australia within the visa period. 

Members of the immediate family (spouse and unmarried dependents children under 18 year of age) may accompany a student to Australia and will be considered to be in the same visa class. School-age dependants accompanying students will be required to pay full fees if they are enrolled in a school in Australia .

Student Health Cover (OSHC)

International students studying in Australia are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover (medical insurance) for the duration of their visa. Your International Student Support Officer can help organise this. 

English language requirements

You must have a minimum level of English language skills to study a TAFE Queensland Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma courses. If you do not meet the criteria, TAFE Queensland can help you gain the skills through our extensive English language training programs.   

International students must satisfy one of the following English language proficiency requirements:

International English Language Testing System   (IELTS)

Diploma Course: Score of 5.5 (with no individual band score less than 5)
Certificate Courses: Score of 5.0

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Computer based score  of 530 or 197 

Australian Second Language Proficiency Rating (ASLPR)

Minimum individual score of 3

Occupational English Test (OET)

Pass

First Cambridge Certificate of English

'A' or 'B' grade

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English

English language experience

 Proof that you have studied in English for 5 years or more in Australia , New Zealand , United Kingdom , Canada , the United States and South Africa .

TAFE Queensland Certificate IV in English

Sound achievement or equivalent in Australian Year 12 English.  Criteria must meet Board of Studies English for Queensland high schools

Sound achievement in   years 11 and 12 English Communication, as specified by the Board of Senior Studies, Queensland

Successful completion of an acceptable formal course (not ELICOS) where the medium of instruction is English
